We are not like big box stores or websites that promise the world, nor can we have the same policies as they do. Most importantly, we do take back unwanted purchases if they have not been installed or wires have been cut. If an item is defective or damaged in shipping, no questions asked, and our vendor will replace at no charge. Unfortunately, our vendors charge us restocking fees and expect us to pay the freight to send unwanted items back because of a customer (buyers) remorse. We always explain to our clients that sizes of fixtures matter. We suggest if they are “ visual”, making a template helps for sure. In the case of exterior fixtures, they will always look large up close. They need to be viewed from the street where they are first seen. When small fixtures are installed on large expensive homes, it actually cheapens the look of the home. It looks like they didn’t want to spend money or time in selecting the correct size fixtures. Most of our
clients understand this and listen to our advice. Some do not. In retail, “the customer is always right” is not always what we believe. At Nancy B’s we know lighting and with our knowledge and expertise, we help our clients to make the right decision the first time. We suggest measuring, measuring, and measuring again.
The same is true with pendants and chandeliers. Often when a pendant measures 12” in width, customers forget that if it’s square, the fixture is 12” on all four sides. If round, 12” in width refers to the measurement from side to side. The circumference refers to the distance
around the pendant. This is where a template is beneficial. Often, we suggest using a dinner plate to help with realizing the size of 12” or cutting wrapping paper in a 12” circle. If smaller, we suggest other items to mimic the size to help them. Drum chandeliers often appear very large when a chandelier with arms of the same size is compared. A drum is solid, if you will, where as a chandelier with arms is airier and more open.
Don’t be shy about asking us questions. No question is silly; if it’s important to you, it’s equally important to us.
