Dallas, Texas is the place to go for the best Lighting Market. I just returned from there and it was a very exciting Market. Our lighting showroom in Charlottesville is packed with hundreds of fixtures but seeing thousands of fixtures in three days is like eating an entire red velvet cake at one sitting (I actually might like to try that one day).
My senses went wild with the feel of the new textures, the smell of the new showrooms, the sight of all the lovely new items and hearing how they are made. Nope, didn’t taste any even though they were very appetizing. The market is the place to learn about the designers who create these enticing pieces of art, meet new vendors and learn of the 2019 trends. It’s a lot of work, a lot of appointments and the guarantee of coming home exhausted and head spinning trying to remember all the new fixtures.
One of the trends for the year is brass. Not the shiny polished brass of years gone by but mostly brushed metal finishes. One designer sees brass as a striking accent rather than as a finish and believes the tarnishing of the brass, which takes years, is an artistic endeavor. Shades of Gray is another trend. Another designer feels gray layered with white takes on a calming, serene feeling and makes other colors pop. Benjamin Moore’s Metropolitan AF-690 is going to be the gray this year.
However, the big color this year is black. It was everywhere! Every showroom had black pendants, bath fixtures, chandeliers, shades, lamps, mirrors and of course exterior fixtures. Black is a statement color, that stands out, yet is subtle, and modern while remaining classic. Black fixtures can work in any home and decor, as they complement other pieces and work with any other color in the room. Everything goes with black after all. In today’s home world of bright interiors and bold colors, black can be that grounding piece you need to pull the whole room together. Its no wonder we always come back around to black! I am bringing in our share of black so please stop by or check out our website for the new, fresh and current fixtures.
